In 2008, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol welcomed 47.4 million passengers and 1.6 million tonnes of cargo. The number of aircraft movements amounted to 428,3,000. With these figures, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is Europe’s 5th busiest airport and 3rd busiest cargo airport. In fact, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the world’s third-largest airport based on the number of international passengers using the airport.Over 100 airlines operate passenger and/or cargo flights to and from AMS to over 262 scheduled destinations worldwide.
With Europe’s highest peak hour capacity at up to 110 movements per hour, using three runways simultaneously, AMS will be able to offer up to 510,000 slots per calendar year.
In 2008 Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was the proud winner of two prestigious awards, namely the “Best Airport in Europe” by Business Traveller in London and “Best Airport Europe” by the readers of Cargonews Asia. Also AMS was awarded the OAG Airport Marketing Award during Routes 2007 in Stockholm.
